Lomonosov University
The Lomonosov Moscow State University, also one of the "seven sisters" (see this and this), was inaugurated on September 1, 1953. At 240 metres tall, it was the tallest building in Europe from its completion until 1990. It is still the tallest educational building in the world.

Stalinist skyscraper

The Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building in Moscow, Russia, is one of seven Stalinist skyscrapers laid down in September 1947 and completed in 1952. The main tower has 32 levels and is 176 metres tall. From 1952 to 1964 it was the tallest residential building in the world, and was succeeded by the 180m-tall 1000 Lake Shore Plaza in Chicago, Illinois.
