Despite the name, there are no corals around. The entire cove is covered with the calcium carbonate skeletons of coralline algae called maerl (see last picture).

Παρά την ονομασία, δεν υπάρχουν κοράλλια εδώ. Η "άμμος" του κόλπου είναι στην πραγματικότητα ξεροί, ασπρισμένοι "σκελετοί" ασβεστούχων φυκιών maerl, που αποτελούνται από ανθρακικό ασβέστιο (τελευταία φωτογραφία)
