Meteora - the magnificent rocks in the northwestern edge of the Plain of Thessaly, near the Pinios river and the Pindos mountain range - with the majestic orthodox monasteries perched on top of them (meteora = "suspended in air"). The Meteora monasteries are included on the UNESCO World Heritage List under criteria I, II, IV, V, and VII.
